Dignity in Practice: The Journey That Led Magara Law to the SME National Business Awards 2025 Final

It’s an honour, and humbling, to share that Magara Law has been named a finalist for Service Excellence at the SME National Business Awards 2025. 

This isn’t just a milestone for our firm, it’s a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, what we’ve stood for since day one, and why service excellence in the world of employment law must be about more than just outcomes. It must be about people. 

For those unfamiliar with our story, we want to share a little of the journey that brought us here because this nomination isn’t just about the present. It’s about the path we’ve walked to get here. 

The Humble Beginnings of Magara Law 

When Roy Magara founded Magara Law, there was no grand master plan or roadmap to awards and accolades. It started with a simple conviction:  That dignity should never be absent from the practice of employment law. 

We’ve seen too many people – employers and employees alike – come to us worn down by systems that treat them like case numbers rather than human beings. From the very beginning, we wanted to build something different: an employment law firm where people leave feeling more valued, not less. 

That conviction has carried us from our first client meeting to where we are today –establishing our fourth office and being named a finalist for Service Excellence at the SME National Business Awards 2025. 

But growth for us has never just been about opening more doors. It’s been about ensuring that every door we open leads to the same standard of care, clarity, and integrity that got us here in the first place.

This nomination is a moment to reflect on that journey, not just how far we’ve come, but why we started and as we’ve grown, that ‘why’ hasn’t changed. 

We’re still here to serve, we’re still here to listen, and we’re still committed to doing the work the right way – even when it’s slower, harder, or less glamorous than others might prefer. 

What Service Excellence Means To Us 

Being shortlisted in the Service Excellence category isn’t just about a quality mark or a well-worded nomination form. For us, it’s about a deeper commitment:

  • Explaining clearly. Because legal jargon helps no one but lawyers. 
  • Standing firm. Especially when a client feels unheard or overlooked.

We’ve always believed that the law should never cost a person their dignity. That belief sits at the heart of how we operate, and it’s gratifying to see that belief recognised through this SME National Business Awards finalist position.
